A look into the role...
To support our continued growth, our innovative Logistics team within Henderson Wholesale are adding this newly created and hugely rewarding Deputy Logistics Manager position to the team.
Based at our main site in Mallusk, this highly exciting role will award the successful applicant with an opportunity to develop their career in Logistics Management within one of the country’s largest home-grown employers.
The Deputy Logistics Manager will manage a large warehousing team, leading efficient and effective processes and equipment, whilst collaborating with other teams to deliver a first-class service and continually improve the operation.
This role will be very well suited to a candidate with proven experience of successfully
leading a team within large scale logistics operations. We are looking for a strong communicator who can inspire others to deliver great service safely within a fast-paced environment.
Working as Deputy Logistics Manager you will:
- Support the Logistics Manager in the daily running of warehouse and distribution operations, deputising for the Logistics Manager when required.
- Help to ensure customer service levels and operational targets are achieved, identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
- Co-ordinate staffing levels, equipment, and workloads to support operational requirements, allocating duties across warehouse, transport, and administration teams as appropriate.
- Ensure vehicles are loaded safely and dispatched on time.
- Support operational changes and continuous improvement activities.
- Support and supervise warehouse teams to ensure performance standards are maintained.
- Assist with recruitment, induction, training, and development of colleagues.
- Manage attendance, overtime, holidays, and absences in line with company procedures.
- Deliver team briefings and communicate operational updates.
- Maintain positive working relationships with employees, departments, and Union representatives.
- Ensure warehouse operations are carried out in line with all health & safety and food safety procedures.
- Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and operational issues.
- Support compliance with company policies, legal requirements through internal and external audits.
- Support the upkeep and general management of warehouse facilities, by ensuring warehouse equipment is available and operating correctly- e.g. scanners, voice equipment, batteries, and related systems.
- Liaise with relevant departments regarding repairs and maintenance issues.
- Promote effective use of WMS and other logistics systems.
- Assist with KPI reporting and operational performance monitoring.
- Assist with cost control and management of budgets.
Skills for Success
Joining us as Deputy Logistics Manager, the minimum criteria you’ll need is:
- A good standard of general education- GCSE level or equivalent.
- At least two years’ experience of successfully managing a large-scale logistics operation.
- Strong people management experience and leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of Warehouse or FMCG management systems.
- Knowledge of Budgetary & Cost Controls.
- A strong working knowledge of, and proven experience in managing operational health & safety procedures.
- Full and valid driving licence.
- A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
The Skills you’ll need include:
- Ability to prioritise, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good communicator with strong written and oral communication skills.
- Resilient and able to deal with challenges/ objections confidently.
- Self-motivated, willing to learn new skills, and able to work on own initiative.
It is desirable if you have:
- A relevant further or higher-level qualification in Logistics, Warehousing or Management.
- Health & Safety/ First Aid qualification.
- Relevant warehousing, logistics, or management qualification
- Previous experience within the FMCG Industry.

This is a full-time position working 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
