Project Assistant (Student Placement)
Attractive Salary and Benefits
36.5 Hour week
Henderson Technology, Antrim Road, Templepatrick
12-month Higher Education Placement commencing ASAP

Who are we?
Henderson Technology is an award winning UK retail technology provider, best known for its EDGEPoS platform used across forecourt and convenience retail. EDGEPoS brings together point of sale, digital media screens, electronic shelf edge labels (ESELs), and store automation tools into a single, integrated system, helping retailers manage pricing, promotions and in-store content from one place.
As the business grows its footprint in digital signage, electronic shelf labelling and store automation, we're expanding our trials into new areas — including retail media, in-store robotics, and applied AI — and we're looking for a placement student to join the project team supporting this work.

A look into the role
You'll join our Project Team for a 12-month placement, working alongside project managers, developers and retail technology specialists on live trials and pilot programmes. This is a hands-on role: you'll be involved in real projects from day one, not shadowing from the sidelines, supporting the rollout and evaluation of new technology in live retail environments.

The placement centres on three connected areas of work:
•    Retail media — supporting trials of in-store digital media and screen-based advertising, helping retailers turn shelf edges and screens into media inventory, and assisting with content scheduling, campaign tracking and performance reporting.
•    In-store robotics — assisting with the setup, monitoring and evaluation of robotic trials in store, including data collection and troubleshooting during pilots.
•    AI trials — helping test and evaluate applied AI use cases across the EDGEPoS ecosystem, focused on unknown loss reduction, and documenting results for the wider project team.

What you’ll gain
Real ownership of work within live, commercially important trials — not observation, but genuine contribution.
•    Exposure to the full lifecycle of a retail technology trial, from setup through to evaluation and rollout recommendation.
•    Direct experience with emerging technology in retail media, robotics and AI, in a sector that's moving quickly.
•    Mentoring and support from an experienced project team, plus the chance to build a professional network in retail tech.
•    A strong foundation of practical, project-based experience to bring back into your final year of study.

Working as Project Assistant you will:
•    Support project managers with the day-to-day coordination of trial and pilot programmes, including scheduling, documentation and stakeholder communication.
•    Assist with the configuration, testing and monitoring of in-store hardware and software used in retail media, robotics and AI trials.
•    Collect, clean and analyse trial data (e.g. uptime, performance, adoption metrics) and help produce clear reporting for internal and retailer-facing updates.
•    Liaise with internal teams (development, hardware, field services) and occasionally with retail partners to troubleshoot issues during live trials.
•    Help maintain project documentation, including trial plans, test scripts, issue logs and post-trial review notes.
•    Get involved in ad hoc technical tasks — from basic scripting or data work to hardware testing — as trials require.
•    Attend project meetings and contribute ideas, questions and observations as a genuine member of the team.

Skills for Success

Joining us as Project Assistant the minimum criteria you’ll need is:
•    Currently studying towards a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, Robotics, or a related discipline.
•    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office solutions particularly Excel

•    A genuine interest in retail technology, automation, or applied AI — you don't need direct experience, but you should be curious about how these technologies work in the real world.
•    Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally to store sites for trial support

 The Attributes you’ll need include:
•    Good attention to detail and a methodical approach — trial work involves careful testing, logging and follow-through.
•    Strong communication skills, written and verbal — you'll be working across teams and, at times, directly with retail partners.
•    A proactive, hands-on attitude and willingness to learn by doing.

Desirable Criteria:
•    Exposure to SQL, Python or similar
